Lambretta Special Had a deal with a mate for me T5 , swap for a 65 special..
So as its winter i got no scooter on the road im gonna start a few projects
This is what i got plus engine and other bits and bats . The frame is in good nick ,Side panels are fiber glass over all good condition leg shield OK need minor filling the usual
Took frame and had it blasted and powder coated . in going to have the majority of the scooter powder coated .Im also not going the fancy spray job rout just a standard nice looking Lambretta
Whilst the frame came out ok the loop came out a bit ripply. Due to the fact that the chap who usually does it was on holiday . And i told the chap to pay special attention to the loop which he put plenty of coating on to much
After a good flat back using wet and dry fine grade . Also thanks to Kelvin for letting me use his workshop/spray facility's
After two good coats of lacquer its starting to look how i want it
Now i know chrome wont get you home and all that . But its powder coat chrome and although not as blingy as real chrome it wont rust or chip. so should be easier to maintain and last longer...
Approx total cost so far around £130. 00
Re: Lambretta Special Took leg shield forks and running boards to blasters leg shields came back in reasonable condition but are going to need a good days work filing and sanding. Also on runner board needs some fettling forks ok ...
Re: Lambretta Special Spent a few more hours today on leg shields .. Also went and got some Acid etch primer specifically for bare metal
really got the shape back into the them as well
Then another light skim with a guide coat to get an even finish
So went on to a few finer grades of sandpaper .. tried to get a few pics of the edges ..
So next time you go and get a price for your scooter to be sprayed . And you think it's a bit expensive , carry on reading these pages to see the work that goes into even a pair of fairly straight leg shields
Re: Lambretta Special This week i decided concentrate on the forks and front hub...
so both were striped and sent to blasters to be blasted and powder coated...
All blasted just prepping for powder coat. Also new bearings oil seals speedo internals
Also new buffers for the forks. I'm going to use the old springs as i felt they still had a few years left in them ..
The plan is to have the forks, hub bottom headset on by weekend ....
Re: Lambretta Special Bit disappointed today a the forks couldn't be coated due to the fact that there was a ;lot of grease in the legs where the springs go. When in the oven the grease melted and ran on the powder coating. So wont be done until Tuesday ....
Anyway on to the front hub...
best to press bearings in i used a vice and a socket bit fiddly but did the job OK..
Back..
Also the fork links...
and new Bushes..
I know there are other-ways of doing this but each to there own is what i say
